Basically sugar that digests slow is considered good which mostly comes from fruits and not from cookies and cakes. So, all I want to say is your parents didn’t misguide you when you were eating fruits. Fructose can almost never be consumed without glucose. Eat fruits and don’t worry you won’t have diabetes of weight gain. But yes, excess of anything is bad for body (even fruits or even water for that matter).

Fruit contains glucose and fructose. Fructose is worse than glucose. Fructose can’t be used as fuel by body directly. Liver converts this fructose to sugar for use if there’s scarcity of glucose in the body. Normally, person who eats high carb diet, body does not need sugar from other sources. Hence, liver converts fructose to fat which gets stored in liver which results in non alcoholic fatty liver. This means eating fruit in high carb diet is equal to drinking alcohol at least as far as liver’s involvement in metabolism is concerned

And plus, I hate that you say it will make you gain weight, burgers won’t make you gain weight, it’s all about calorie deficit.
